As most online genealogists have learned, the Social Security Death Index is one of the most important research tools available for verifying deaths and death locations. The Death Index allows you to search 72 million individuals for the following information: name, birth date, death date, last known residence, and where to write for more information.
This 12-CD product gives the researcher access to the Social Security database going back to 1875. Unlike earlier versions of the Social Security Death Index allows you to search by birth date, as well as deaths.
The information compiled here was extracted from the Social Security Administration's Master Death File and is current as of submissions to the Social Security Administration through November 2003. It does not necessarily include information on every individual who died between 1937 and 2003 since the deaths of individuals who died more recently (within the last 6 to 15 years) may not have been recorded by local Social Security offices yet.
