This work has a deserved reputation for thoroughness and accuracy, and is
widely regarded as a model genealogy because of its high standards of
research. The Boones are traced through eleven generations from the
original emigrant ancestors, and the comprehensiveness of the work is shown
by the fact that the index contains about 15,000 names.
Complete genealogical data on the Boone family and collateral descendants notwithstanding, the book further includes a biographical sketch of Daniel Boone, written by Jesse Procter Crump; a section on families of undetermined connection; a section on allied families showing the ancestry of some of those who married into the Boone family in the earlier generations;
appendices on early Boone records, e.g. baptisms, marriage records, and
Revolutionary War records; and a final section on the life and customs of
the pioneer settlers of North Carolina and Kentucky.
