Newton Township, originally part of Old Gloucester County in West New Jersey, was the site of some of the earliest settlements along the Delaware River. The area today roughly encompasses the city of Camden plus Haddon Township within Camden County. Lest the founding fathers of Newton Township be as forgotten as the county they settled, John Clement has prepared a number of detailed genealogical and biographical sketches of these patriarchs and matriarchs.
