Volume I of English Adventurers and Emigrants, covering the period 1609-1660, was published in 1984 and Volume II for 1661-1733 in 1985. Both of these books are concerned with records of the High Court of Admiralty (HCA) in cases affecting colonial America, and both are now out of print. This third volume is based on subsidiary records and covers HCA cases for the overlapping period 1625-1777. Both historically and genealogically significant, the early HCA cases refer to pioneering emigrant voyages to New England and Virginia and to copies of correspondence between the American colonies and the home country. Arranged in chronological order, the HCA abstracts bristle with the names of passengers and crew and contain references to ships, dates, and ports of arrival and departure.
