This volume contains over 200 letters written by members of the above families, most of them written to Kate Hill Kelley of Danby, Vermont. Most of the letter writers were originally from Danby, Pittsford, and Wallingford, Vermont. The letters reveal much about life in these Rutland County towns. Also included are letters received from family members who migrated to Cattaraugus and Erie Counties, New York, and Black Earth, Wisconsin, as well as letters from Kate's two sisters, whose marriages took them to Ansonia, Connecticut, and Dardanelle, Arkansas.

Also included are 95 pages of family descendancy charts, 63 pages of biographical notes and research about the letter writers and subjects, 20 pages of family pictures, and a full index of all names and places mentioned in the letters, genealogy charts, and biographies. In almost every case, the descendancy charts add new information to or correct previously published genealogies.
