Jeremy Gibson and his associates are the leading compilers of specialized research guides to British genealogical records. Clearfield Company has acquired stock in these two Gibson Guides, which represent prior editions that have been superseded by new ones in the last year or so. Though dated, these titles pack a tremendous amount of helpful information at less than half the price of the booklets' original cost.
British militia lists, "Defense Lists," and muster rolls, where they survive between 1757 and 1876, constitute almost a complete census of the adult male population of Britain. Militias were generally raised on a county basis, and most of these voluminous records are found today in the various county record offices. Gibson's Militia Lists and Musters is a guide to the location of all such records in the county record offices throughout Britain.
The second volume in the bundle is a guide to unpublished indexes to marriage and census records in Great Britain and Ireland, most of which were privately compiled or are otherwise inaccessible to the researcher. Arranged by counties, the entries give the place or places of coverage of the index, dates of coverage, a description of the contents, and the name and address of the compiler.
