Originally published as Part Two of Ancient Landmarks of Plymouth, Davis's "Genealogical Register of Plymouth Families" has established itself as one of a handful of standard genealogical dictionaries of New England and is quite possibly the most comprehensive register of Plymouth families ever assembled. Containing the names of thousands of individuals with Mayflower and sistership origins, there is little wonder why this work should claim the attention of persons of suspected Pilgrim descent. It contains a great quantity of material written in a style reminiscent of the older genealogical dictionaries, with families, in narrative form, worked through several generations, showing marriages, dates, children and children's marriages and offspring.

The method of arrangement consists of listing together everyone of the same surname and grouping them thereunder in alphabetical order, with their marriages, children, and children's children following. As each line is exhausted the text resumes with the person next in the alphabet. The genealogies are quite intricate and name many thousands of persons, though just how many is difficult to estimate. The data is based largely on the records of the town of Plymouth, Massachusetts and draws on all marriage and birth records through the last quarter of the nineteenth century.

". . . The most convenient and comprehensive source of information regarding Plymouth families."- The Mayflower Quarterly (May 1975).
