The series Colonial Families of Surry and Isle of Wight Counties, Virginia, of which the new Williams book is the ninth and latest installment, consists of two types of books pertaining to the early genealogy of Surry and Isle of Wight counties in Virginia. The genealogies trace the various families in a six-generation format that includes all records, documents, and discussions of descent. The other books in the series consist of abstracts or transcriptions of the records of Isle of Wight County.
Following are some of the highlights of the Williams volume in author John Anderson Brayton's own words: "My interest in George Williams as a possible grandson of Daniell Boucher's wife Elizabeth ___ grew into an interest in all the descendants of this elusive ancestress. These families were well connected in the Tidewater. The Surry Hunts were allied to the Knotts, of Adventurers of Purse and Person (AP&P) fame, and their treatment in this volume will correct some mistakes in the last edition of AP&P--an entire generation of Granville Co., NC descendants will now enjoy a connection to the Virginia nobilaire. Others will regret not having Daniell Boucher as an ancestor, but the Drakes and Williamses will enjoy a newly revealed connection to this constellation of Virginians. Speaking of Virginia heraldica, the following families are descendants of First Families of Virginia: Davis, Davis through Moone, Reynolds, and Hunt and Parker through Knott. . . . The most difficult aspect of this project was the separation of the various Hunt families who owned land in Surry Co., VA . . . ."
