If you have folks who hail from the northern neck or the middle peninsula of Virginia's Tidewater, this book is for you. The book is divided into half genealogy pages, half history of the times from the 1600s to the 1950s in that area, as the people endured unjust government, the struggles of attaining freedom from England, the bombardments of the War of 1812, the occupation of the Civil War, the struggle of reconstruction and onto World War II. If you like the story of an ordinary, imperfect family that remains a family through love, you will like this story.

The genealogy pages follow the family lines of DANIEL, THRIFT, CHENEY, COOKE, CORR, LEE, PRICE, AND ROGERS, and myriads of lines joining through marriages and friendships, including the names of slaves and indentured servants. There is a ten-page index, pictures of people and places long gone, and an excellent Bibliography.

"It is the result of three years of research which became too good to keep to myself", the author states. "I didn't want just names and dates, but wanted the people to come alive and knew there are untold thousands out there from coast to coast, whose roots trace to the Rappahannock River area of Virginia."

Surnames included: Daniel, Frith, Thrift, Cooke, Corr, Cheney, Lee, Price, Rogers, also Bailey, Ball, Ballard, Ballentine, Baxter, Bland, Boyd, Brent, Byrd, Carter, Caughorn, Chowning, Dews, Garland, Garret, Gower, Gray, Hathaway, Healy, Henning, Johnson, Johnston, Jones, Kirk, Koegel, McCan, Martin, MeKenney, Mickelborough, Mitchell, Montague, Moseley, Moxley, Mullins, Murdock, Northern, Perrott, Perry, Pierson, Revere, Rilee, Roach, Roane, Robins, Robinson, Rochester, Rosser, Rye, Smith, Sparrow, Thilman, Tinsley, Trice, Travers, Troyman, Trumble, Twyman, Varse, Ware, Warwick, Wiliams, Wolfe, Wood, Woodson, Wormely, Wortham, Sycliff, Young, Zachary.
