Founded in 1975, the North Carolina Genealogical Society Journal is widely recognized as the leading periodical in its field. Mr. William Bennett has pulled together the first consolidated index to these ten volumes of this important periodical, totalling 120,000 entries. The types of records available in the periodical and to which this index refers include genealogical articles, biographical sketches, family records, Bible records, letters, memoirs, diary extracts, lists of early settlers, migrations into and out of North Carolina, marriage notices, marriage licenses and bonds, obituary notices, church records, cemetery inscriptions, records of military service, colonial petitions, wills and will books, deeds and deed books, court minutes, estate partitions, tax lists, voting lists, census records, equity records, miscellaneous records, early documents, records from burnt counties, and research records. (Mr. Bennett hopes to prepare a consolidated index to Volumes XI through XX of the NCGSJ at a later date.)
