An extensive work, this is based on original records, mainly of the Congregational and Episcopal churches of the period 1651-1800. About 30,000 marriages are recorded, arranged by town and thereunder by church, and they give the full names of the brides and grooms, and the marriage dates. Each of the seven volumes is indexed.

Here in one volume are the seven separate books compiled by the Reverend Mr. Bailey between 1896 and 1906. As reprinted in a single volume, with additions and corrections by Donald Lines Jacobus, this work is now the most complete collection of Connecticut marriage records available. The 30,000 records derive chiefl y from the registers of Congregational and Episcopal churches and are arranged by town and thereunder by church, giving the full names of brides and grooms and dates of marriage. The reprint integrates all handwritten errata into the text and carries a new introduction by Mr. Jacobus, who writes: "For more than half a century, these books have been helpful to many people with Connecticut ancestry. They are a great aid especially to compilers of family histories, who wish to locate every item pertaining to a specifi c surname.�
