VISIT US at the NGS CONFERENCE in Kansas City, Missouri, May 14-17, 2008
If you are planning to attend the National Genealogical Society (NGS) Conference at the Hyatt Regency Crown Center Hotel, 2345 McGee Street, Kansas City, Missouri, May 14-17, 2008, please stop by the Genealogical Publishing Company-Clearfield Company combined exhibit (Booths 417-421). We'll be displaying a large selection of our newest and most popular titles on U.S. and world genealogy. (We hope you will also stop by Booth 423, where Ann Hughes, president of our sister company, Gateway Press, will be delighted to talk with you about publishing your family history.) To learn more about the conference itself, visit the NGS website at www.ngsgenealogy.org.
Here are just a few of the highlights of our 2008 NGS exhibit:
- Without a doubt, the book that has created the most excitement since last year's NGS annual meeting in Richmond, Virginia, is Elizabeth Shown Mills' EVIDENCE EXPLAINED: Citing History Sources from Artifacts to Cyberspace. Ms. Mills' book, truly the culmination of a lifetime of research in primary and secondary sources, has won the plaudits of the genealogical community since it came off press in July of 2007. In addition, the prestigious magazine, "Library Journal" has selected it as one of its "Best Reference Books of 2007." If you are not one of the 5,000 persons who have purchased a copy in the last ten months, you can look over a copy at our booth. If you decide to purchase, Elizabeth Mills will be available to autograph your copy at various times during the conference.
- Just as 2007 marked the 400th anniversary of the founding of Jamestown, 2008 represents the 400th year since Samuel de Champlain founded the French settlement of Quebec. We will have copies on hand of our new book COMPANIONS OF CHAMPLAIN: Founding Families of Quebec, 1608-1635, by Denise Larson, which commemorates this historic occasion and lays out the genealogies of Quebec's pioneering families for three generations. (By the way, if your Canadian line is Nova Scotian, be sure to have a look at Terrence Punch's very popular book, ERIN'S SONS: Irish Arrivals in Atlantic Canada, 1761-1853.)
- As many of you know, we launched a BLOG a few months ago. Carolyn Barkley, who edits and manages www.GenealogyandFamilyHistory.com, will be on hand to demonstrate the blog. If you are already a faithful reader, please stop by and let Carolyn know. Your feedback is important for suggestions for future articles.
- A PENNY FOR SHIPPING: Naturally, we hope you'll want to purchase books at our display; however, if you don't see what you are looking for in Kansas City, you can order any book or CD in our catalogue for just 1 cent (i.e. a penny) above the cost of the books themselves. To qualify for this special offer, just say the magic words, "Genealogy Pointers" to one of our staff members (Joe, Karen, or Carolyn), and they will see to it that you are charged the cost of the books plus a penny for shipping--no matter how many books or CDs you order.
